Although traveling can be fun, it can be hard to stay in shape when on a cruise , at the World’s Longest Yard Sale or sightseeing in general. Here are a few ways you can keep in shape while on vacation, no matter the type of trip you take:
- Walk whenever you can. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Go for a walk instead of taking a cab. When it makes sense, choose to use your legs and feet as opposed to modern convenience.
- Be adventurous. Try to get some exercise in ways that help you enjoy the area you’re visiting. Rent a bike, go hiking, try water-skiing or play a game of beach volleyball.
- Stretch. When you have some downtime, stretch your legs, arms, back, etc. This will help you stay loose as you move from one activity to another.
- Bring a jump rope. If it isn’t feasible to walk, bring a jump rope to squeeze in a little movement before you leave your room. This is also a great time to do a few sit-ups, push-ups and jumping jacks.
- Hop in the pool. If there’s one available, swim a few laps or try pool walking.
- Lift your bag. If you like to lift weights, put a few jugs of water in your backpack or bag and do a few bicep curls, standing rows, tricep extensions, squats, etc.
- Dress comfortably. Bring a few comfortable workout clothes that fit your destination’s climate so you aren’t discouraged by the weather.
